Porsche Passion

From 1962 to 1965 I got the opportunity to go to summer camp for the entire summer in Nova Scotia. I was living in Northern NJ and this was quite special and a unique experience for a kid that went to public school. The experience shaped my life in many ways and this post is about one of them.
We traveled to camp by bus to Bar Harbor Maine and then sailed across the Bay of Fundy on the Bluenose ferry. It was a six hour trip and all the camp boys had the run of the ship. During the 1964 trip I was exploring the lower decks were the cars were parked, when I came upon this green 356 Porsche. In the car was an Afghan hound and just outside the car stood the owner, a young guy, probably on summer break from college, eating peanut butter and jelly. The car was packed like someone on a road trip. I remember thinking this was all very cool. I may have seen a Porsche before, but this car stuck in my mind, I was 14.

When you first start a blog you feel like you are talking to yourself...because you are!
If you do find this site please follow and comment. I know that there are many car enthusiasts out there, with stories that are more than just mechanical motorhead stuff, though that is welcome too.

Art & Cars

Acrylic on Paper 10"X12"

This is my second post of this new blog. I write another blog all about my painting and art pursuits and there will likely be some cross over. This blog is going to address a more focused aspect of this new interest. I intend that my posts will illustrate my entire experience with this car and other motor vehicles I have owned or wish I owned or just come in contact with through friends and travels.

The painting above is a plein-aire work I did last October, when I drove up to my studio with my newly acquired car and decided that this is what I should paint that day. It is not painted from a photography, and I am not an artist that regularly paints cars.

I will something journey into the detailed mechanical workings of this car. I have some (limited) skills).
I think the entire experience is broader than that

The Car

This is the Craigslist ad for the Porsche 944 that I responded to, in July 2010.
It was a week before my 60th birthday.
I really was in need of a practical car. A 4WD Jeep or maybe a pick-up truck. Most of my life I had to be "practical" even having to have a basket on the front my bike so I could go to the grocery store for my Mom.
I have owned 6 Volvos and 3 were station wagons. Now we have a fast red car, so much for practicality!
